A Church Built on The Rock
ANFGM FUJAIRAH
If you want to relax, stay away from the hustle and bustle of a city life and get away from the stifling heat of the desert, the emirate of Fujairah is definitely the place to go.
Accordingly, Fujairah is the home of the oldest mosque in the UAE built of mud and bricks in 1946 (Source: Wikipedia). While this is a fact, ANFGM Fujairah also holds the title of being the oldest outreach. A church that is literally built in an almost mountainous and rocky surroundings. Be that as it may, like all other churches truly inspired and established through Christ Jesus, the Fujairah Church is definitely a church that is built on The Rock.
In 1991, Ptr. Knaf Trinidad was supporting More Than Conqueror Church (MTCC) in Fujairah in which Sis. Hermie Trilliana was the spiritual leader. Due to visa problem, Sis Hermie moved to Abu Dhabi and was supported by then AFFGM. Consequently in 1992, the bible study of MTCC was transferred to Bro. Roberto and Sis. Myrna Arizala's residence and became an outreach of AFFGM. It was September of the same year when Fujairah Outreach started its first formal worship service at Sis. Myrna’s residence.
Fujairah is an emirate blessed with more rainfall than the rest. Fujairah Outreach is also blessed with numerous anointed leaders. Pastor Ronnel Baguio was installed as Resident Pastor sometime in 1997. Due to health problems, he had to go back to the Philippines. He is now with the Lord. Pastor Bong Esteban briefly pastored the church in 2000 but went back home due to visa problems. Pastor Bill Amores served as Interim Pastor in 2005. In March 2012, Ptr. Bong Esteban rejoined as the Outreach’s Resident Pastor.
In between times, there may have been no resident pastor for many years after Ptr. Ronnel but the Lord is able to keep the outreach running through the management of the Elders. In 2006, Pastor Bert Pontanilla was appointed as Pastor of Fujairah while at the same time, pastoring the church in Sharjah.
In 2007, Ptr. Bert said in a write-up published in PROCLAIM Issue No. 5, the year was a qualifying year as then new worship center in Al Fasel stood with generosity and love expressed through prayers and financial support by ANFGM family headed by the Senior Pastor.
In 2010, the worship center was taken away from the Fujairah brethren. It was painful for them to leave the building which they have considered their home for 3 years. However, this circumstance made the members depend on each other and cling more to the Lord. More fellowships were established in the elders houses, deeper relationships among the brethren were developed, more souls were encouraged and more of God’s grace, love and power were manifested. A new worship center was obtained at a function hall in Coral Residence Tower. God provides exuberantly as the outreach is able to pay the hall’s monthly rental for 2 years now.
The outreach leaders conduct discipleship training program every Monday and Friday, prayer meeting every Monday, small group during week days and prayer intercessory every Wednesday. They have organized a relational evangelism by building up holistic approach of friendship to unbelievers.
Truly, it is not the physical church center that matters. It is, without a doubt, the Church that is built on The Rock— a congregation of 55 currently active members whose foundation is of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
All churches, or outreaches per se, have their own rocky rides and mountainous stories to tell. And it is awesome to know that the oldest outreach of ANFGM still stands by God’s grace and burns with passion to share the love of Christ!
